California HIV/AIDS Hotline

The California HIV/AIDS Hotline, a program of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, provides information about HIV and AIDS, emotional support, and referrals in both English and Spanish including information on HIV and STD testing, HIV transmission, HIV/AIDS treatments, and other related topics. The Hotline is staffed each year by more than 100 volunteers, who complete a 32-hour training program to prepare them for their work. Volunteers are supported by a small group of paid staff who coordinate schedules and provide support during each shift of the Hotline. Both volunteers and staff are assisted by a Foundation-maintained referral database at www.aidshotline.org. The database contains more than 1,300 referral organizations and programs providing HIV/AIDS services throughout California. The Hotline handles more than 70,000 calls and emails each year. All calls are anonymous and confidential. Hotline hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 9:00am to 9:00pm on Tuesdays. To reach the California HIV/AIDS Hotline, call one of the following numbers: * 1-800-367-AIDS (toll-free in California) * 1-888-225-AIDS (toll-free TTY line) * 1-415-863-AIDS (for those calling from in San Francisco or outside California) Outside our hours of operation, you can contact: * AIDS/HIV and Hep C Nightline, 1-800-273-AIDS (toll-free in California) * CDC National Info Line, 1-800-CDC-INFO (toll-free in the US)

HIV Client Services Advocates (San Francisco)

The Client Services Department of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation provides one-stop registration for clients to access services through our HIV Services Partnership, which includes the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the UCSF AIDS Health Project, and Shanti Project. Highly skilled client advocates perform a comprehensive intake assessment for each new client in order to determine his or her needs, provide information and resources, and create a care plan. Our goal is to connect clients to a network of care delivery--including primary care physicians, access to medications, substance use programs, mental health support, and other supportive services--to help them negotiate the complex set of issues related to HIV and improve their health.
